Sunrise Sharks News - Sharks Bytes 07/12/26

Happy Sunday Shark Families,

Coaches Corner:

Congratulations on a fantastic, hard-earned win! I am so sad that our season is coming to an end, but I am so incredibly proud of all of you!

Do you have plans for the off season, August through January 31st?

While many of us do other activities in the off season, I think many of you would have a lot of fun and would enjoy continuing to work on your swim skills! My own children swim year-round, they get about 2-3 weeks off in August. Is it hard to juggle sometimes? Yes, it is. Does my family still love it? Also, yes. Swimming is a fantastic sport, and I would encourage you all to look into fall programs if you are curious. Any of them! We are very lucky to have many options (there are people who drive hours to get to a program in other areas) and they are all great!

I am involved in many areas of swim in Northern California and Nevada (because I have developed a lifelong love for this amazing sport) so I want you to know, that I would never want to take you on a path that is not for you. My children swim on a team I love, and I serve on this team’s board. I do not coach there. The team has taken my children, who are individually very different, and molded them both into fantastic swimmers. I also serve on the regional USA Swimming Board (Sierra Nevada) as their Safe Sport Chair. All this to say, if you feel like we are pointing you in a specific direction, that direction is really only towards continuing to swim. I am an open book. Ask me all the questions. I am happy to answer them all!

The theme for this week is “what have you learned about yourself this season? And “How are you preparing for Champs?”

Are you sleeping?

Are you eating well?

Are you stretching before and after practice?

How are you making the best of your swim season?

These next couple of weeks may feel different as we approach Champs and some of us taper and others work on improving our skills. I have learned so much about myself and about other people in these seasons I have been with the Sharks. The most important thing I have learned is how amazing you all are. Each and every one of you. No matter what.

Swimmer of the Week:

6U

  • Mira O – Mira has worked hard this week even if it meant challenging herself past her limits! Her strive and ambition has shown she can do anything she puts her mind to.
  • Parker L – Parker’s goal this week was to work on keeping his legs straight during freestyle and backstroke kick. Parker used “no excuses” because each time it was corrected he took the feedback and used it towards fixing his kicks instead of making excuses!

7/8

  • Clara F – Clara showed no excuses and pushed really hard when we worked on our underwater pool progression.
  • Daniela S – Dani has been showing up consistently always with a good attitude throughout practice and works hard and listens to feedback. Coach is very proud of her hard work!

9/10

  • Zoey H – Zoey has been working super hard on her starts and making sure her legs stay together when she goes in.
  • Joshua I – Josh has been pushing really, really hard this week. He has worked hard, not been last in his lane, put forth a great amount of effort and really finding his stroke. He’s pushing himself a lot more now that the groups are smaller.

11/12

  • Hailey Schoemig – Hailey shows up ready to face the day! She comes prepared to get in the water and completes her sets without complaining to her Coaches!
  • Hector S – Hector used the “no excuses” this week because when he was moved lanes, he didn’t question or make up excuses as to why he couldn’t move or keep going. He kept moving forward and finished each lap with his best performance and attitude.

13/14

  • Camryn B – Camryn has made good improvements to her relay starts and open turns while staying disciplined to complete our main sets. Her improvement during this season has been incredible to watch.
  • Artem N – Artem has been asking Coach for ways to improve and even though he goes to the bathroom during practice, he still makes it a point to have 100% effort when we do our sets.

15-18

  • Payton B – With only a few weeks left in the season Peyton has entered crunch time! She has shown she can work hard and challenge herself past her limits as well as take corrections from her Coaches when she is given them.
  • Phallon F – Phallon is always working hard. He pushes through every set, including the challenging ones, and strives to improve as much as he can in every practice.

Meet Results:

This weekend was a tight race. We squeaked out the win by 24 points! Final scores were 426.5 to 402.5.

Coaches Spotlight:

Coaches Appreciation week is coming up in ONE week!

Each week leading up to it, we'll spotlight two coaches so you can learn more about your coaching team. This week we have the spotlight on Coach Jess & Coach Christian!

Some quick info on Coach Jess, she’s an amazing barista, loves anything Winnie the Pooh, her first job was a lifeguard at the Shark Tank when she was kid, and has a small allergy to tomatoes but still loves salsa.

Some quick info on Coach Christian, he enjoys hiking, goes to school & swims at ARC, sings and raps pretty well, and favorite place to eat is In n Out and Chili’s.

You can read more about both coaches by tapping HERE.

Dinner for Coaches 7/20-7/24:

A great way to show your appreciation is with food! If you’re able, please consider signing up for a coaches dinner during Coaches Appreciation Week. This can be homemade, restaurant pickup or a quick stop at a drive thru on your way to the Shark Tank! Feel free to talk to the coach you select to find out what they like, their order at a particular place or if you want to surprise them, just ask what they don’t like😄 Wednesday is a great night for dinner from Chipotle…it’s our foodraiser!

You can signup for a Coach dinner HERE

Board Elections:

It takes many hands to run a swim season with a lot of time & dedication behind the scenes.

Your Sunrise Sharks Parent Board Vote is now active and accepting your vote! Please check your email inbox and junk/spam folder for an email from “Election Buddy”. This is the only way to cast your vote.

Voting closes on Wednesday July 15th at 11:59pm

Fall Swim:

Sunrise no longer offers a fall team, but we do provide information on fall teams in the area.

Sunrise coaches encourage all interested swimmers to join a fall program to continue working on your technique and endurance.

We are not affiliated, nor do we as a team recommend any tall program, but encourage you to choose the best fit your family.

Scholarship Application:

The Sunrise Sharks Swim Team was founded in the year 1970 to enhance the foundation of youth swimming in the Sunrise Recreation and Park district community and provide opportunities for youth to participate and compete in the sport of swimming.

Scholarships in the amount of $50-$500 (more or less, subject to budgetary balance) are given annually to swimmers who meet the specific criteria. If you are continuing your education in college or trade school, we encourage you to review the application and it you meet the criteria, please apply! Application can be found on the team website.

New Feature to Calendar:

We've added something new to the calendar in hopes of helping streamline information to our families quicker. All the meet info you patiently wait for in Friday's email, is now available in the calendar event.
