Happy Sunday Shark Families,
Coaches Corner:
Coach Leslie has a favorite saying, "Excuses are the building blocks of failure. They are used to build monuments of nothingness. Those who use them seldom succeed." I don't know who said it but it has always stuck with me and is appropriate for all areas of life.
What we learn at swim is also appropriate for all areas of life. We learn to work hard, we learn to compete, and we learn a lot about ourselves. My hope for each and every one of you is you have gained a lifelong love for the water, and that swim is something that made you work hard physically and mentally, but all that made you realize that you are capable of doing extraordinary things.
~ Coach Leslie
Swimmer of the Week:
6U
- Olivia N - Olivia has worked hard all season long. She has joined the 7/8 group and works so hard. While she wasn’t here this week, Coach thought it appropriate to nominate her because of the volume of hard work from Olivia this season.
7/8
- Reagan L - Reagan has shown up to practice consistently and is focused on working hard. Her butterfly has been looking quite excellent these last couple of weeks.
9/10
- Jade D - Jade has kept her head down & worked very hard. This week she worked on all the little things to improve her strokes.
11/12
- Chris F - Chris is always working hard to reach his goals! He often talks to his coaches about what he wants to work on and applies the advise to his swims.
13/14
- Yatsil P - Yatsil has been working hard this season and this week she worked hard to improve her pull downs and block starts. She also pushed hard to finish this week's pull set.
15-18
- Anya R - This week Anya wanted to work on improving her pulldowns. She asked questions, kept working until she had a legal pull down and felt more confident for the next time she swims breast stroke. This dedication shows she has a goal in mind for what she wants to achieve by the end of the season.
Team Social – TUESDAY July 7th:
In response to our parent survey at the end of last season, we have moved one social from Wednesday to Tuesday. We hope all can attend and join us for a sharktastic evening of swimming, raffle prizes, delicious food and don’t forget to pickup your Shark-a-Thon prizes!

Coaches Spotlight:
Coaches Appreciation week is coming up in TWO weeks!
Each week leading up to it, we'll spotlight two coaches so you can learn more about your coaching team. This week we have the spotlight on Coach Lexi & Coach Graham!
Some quick info on Coach Lexi, she’s a great baker, loves seashells, favorite animal is a frog and likes Taco Bell.
Some quick info on Coach Graham, he is really good at Rubik’s cubes, has been swimming since he was three years old, premed at Skidmore College and favorite candy is Reese’s.
You can read more about both coaches by tapping HERE.
Parent Relay:
We still need 3 more parents for our Champs Parent Relay Teams. It’s a great way to cool off during a warm day, have fun with your team and have a front row seat to the excitement! Please reply to this email to join and use the parent lane at practice to prepare😁
WILL YOUR SWIMMER BE AT CHAMPS?:
If you already know your swimmer can't attend, PLEASE DECLINE BOTH DAYS OF CHAMPS NOW. To reach the calendar to decline, tap HERE.
This is a huge meet for our team and the last chance for your swimmer to get a time in every event. As a reminder, ALL swimmers attend Champs. This is a two-day swim meet, with all five teams in our conference. If you haven't already, please note your calendar for July 25th & 26th.
Foodraiser Wednesday:
Board Nominations:
It takes many hands to run a swim season with a lot of time & dedication behind the scenes.
Your Sunrise Sharks Parent Board is accepting nominations for the upcoming Board election. If you are interested in helping plan & run the 2027 season, we encourage you to submit a nomination! Nominations are due by Thursday July 9th, at 11:59pm
Please check out the link HERE to read more on the board positions and meeting schedule.
Fall Swim:
Sunrise no longer offers a fall team, but we do provide information on fall teams in the area. Sunrise coaches encourage all interested swimmers to join a fall program to continue working on your technique and endurance.
We are not affiliated, nor do we as a team recommend any fall program, but encourage you to choose the best fit your family.
Scholarship Application:
The Sunrise Sharks Swim Team was founded in the year 1970 to enhance the foundation of youth swimming in the Sunrise Recreation and Park district community and provide opportunities for youth to participate and compete in the sport of swimming.
Scholarships in the amount of $50-$500 (more or less, subject to budgetary balance) are given annually to swimmers who meet the specific criteria. If you are continuing your education in college or trade school, we encourage you to review the application and if you meet the criteria, please apply! Application can be found on the team website.
New Feature to Calendar:
We've added something new to the calendar in hopes of helping streamline information to our families quicker. All the meet info you patiently wait for in Friday's email, is now available in the calendar event.
