Sunrise Sharks News - Sharks Bytes 6/22/25

Coaches Corner:

Thank you for your words of encouragement on deck and at the meet this week! The coaching staff at the Sharks tries our very best every day to give your swimmers a great experience. I know the swim lessons holding up the first practice has been difficult and we are trying to get a better solution than dryland training. Please bear with us and know we are acutely aware.

This week’s theme will be “unbreakable minds”. Mental toughness is the foundation of success in the pool. So how do we get there? We need to set clear and achievable goals for both the short term and the long term. In the beginning of the season many of our groups set long term goals for this season. We also need to have positive self-talk. Replace negative thoughts with positive and empowering ones. An finally visualization. Visualize yourself having successful races. Focus on details like technique, turns, finishes, or overcoming obstacles.

Have you thanked a team parent? The team parents have a tough job and I want to show them some appreciation. Thank you for caring for our Sharks!

-Coach Leslie

Swimmers of the Week:

6U

  • Raven Y – Raven has done her absolute best! She tries her hardest every single lap and Coach is very proud of her.
  • Elijah P – Elijah always comes to practice ready to go with a great attitude and is always eager to know what is next. He swims his hardest every lap and asks what he can do to get better.

7/8

  • Kendra D – Kendra has put in a lot of effort this season and works her very hardest every practice. Kendra takes corrections and fixes things during practice. Her progress this season has been awesome to watch!
  • Killian R – Killian has had such a great improvement through the season He has partnered with Coach and has been very focused and attentive. Great Job Killian!

9/10

  • Amelia C – Amelia always wants to know what she can do to get better in the water. She asks great questions and always shows up ready to swim her hardest.
  • Aaron V – has asked Coach to work on IM because he wants to get better. Throughout the week when we have worked on IM he has asked questions and worked hard to improve.

11/12

  • Emma H – Emma is a great listener and pays attention to Coach. Emma is well behaved, doesn’t cause problems, and always has a great attitude. The improvements in her swims in the last weeks show how hard she has worked, and it is paying off! Good Job Emma!
  • Hector S – Hector has only been on the team for two weeks and has been such a wonderful addition. He quickly integrated to his group. Hector takes corrections well and is working hard every practice.

13/14

  • Keyana B – Not only is Keyana a Jr. Coach but she also attends practice consistently (even while playing another sport). At practice Keyana asks lots of questions about starts, strokes, and turns so she can work on getting better.
  • Denmark V – Denmark has gotten so much better at listening to instructions as the season has progressed. He swims every lap to his full potential. Denmark always asks questions and takes corrections easily. The coaches are so proud of the growth he has shown this season!

15/18

  • Gwen T – Gwen tries her best and communicates with Coach in order to get the best out of practice. Coach Leslie is very impressed with Gwen. She is the only swimmer this season that has asked to have rules explained to her and even borrowed Coach Leslie’s USA Swimming Rule Book to read through the rules of backstroke. If that isn’t being meticulous, I don’t know what is! Great job Gwen!
  • Eli B – Eli comes to practice with a great attitude every day. Eli takes corrections easily and works to refine his skill. Good job Eli!
