Sunrise Sharks News - Sharks Bytes 6/1/25

Coaches Corner:

The meet had a rough start, but we rallied and had a great one. Our friends at Rocklin were great hosts and hope we come back soon. The temperatures were hot but the swims were great! I loved to see the beads being picked up and hearing the bell ring! Great job Sharks! We have a home meet this Saturday and it won’t be as hot. I do hope that we can get all the no shows under control. A lot of work goes into seeding the meet and then having to rearrange everything in a few minutes before the meet starts. This goes for all swimmers big and small. Please help us be able to run the meet smoothly. It is greatly appreciated.

This week I want to focus on the power of positivity when you come to practice or swim in a meet. Really for life in general but lets focus on the pool. Come to practice wanting to practice. Swimming is a mixture of hard work, effort, and fun. You should come prepared for all three. There are days when you won’t feel like going to practice or swimming a certain event at a meet, but that is exactly when positive thinking is needed. I am positive that I will feel better when I show up and get in the water and give it 100%. The 100% you have today may be half of what you have tomorrow, but when you think positively and give what you have you will see the best results.

“I try to make the good days great and take something positive from the days I’m not feeling good.” – Katie Ledecky

A huge thank you to all our Sharks families, especially our team parents, for your patience and understanding while we sorted thru a ton of no show & no text/late arrival swimmers and Rocklin worked thru their computer mishaps. Our main rockstar computer guy was absent from the meet & not available to assist Rocklin with computer problems. But our amazing webmaster and future computer czar Sarah Hodson was able to help Rocklin get thru the issues. We’re all anxious to know the score for our first in conference meet, but please continue to be patient if meet results are delayed. We’re all volunteers and doing the best we can😊

Parent Reminders:

  • We are continuing to have a significant amount of swimmers not declining meets. All meets, including Champs, are open to decline if you know your swimmer will NOT attend. Please take a moment to go thru the calendar and decline your swimmer from any meet they will NOT be at. If you miss the deadline to decline, Sunday before a meet, you can email coach & computer to decline. If you are running late to a meet, you must send a text-the number is always listed in the Friday meet email. The text line is only open the morning of the meet only. PLEASE DO NOT TEXT A COACH, they are busy with other duties. Swimmers who miss check-in & do not text, will be scratched from the meet and possibly not put in relays at the following meet. This all creates a huge amount of work the morning of a meet and causes delays. Please help us in ensuring a smooth meet morning.
  • Missing! We have a swimmer missing items from all meets. If you ended up with stuff that wasn’t yours, no problem, it always happens at meets. Please bring any items to the pool and leave on the bleachers railings. Anything left over will be placed in our lost & found tub. We are looking for a black & white Adidas duffle bag, personalized swim cap, blue Sharks pants and I’m sure much more! Please check your swim stuff and help a sad Shark reunite with her belongings.
  • Thursday June 5th Sharks from each age group, who “Swam the Most Laps” at Shark-a-Thon will get half their practice to spin the wheel to determine which sets will be done. We hope you all can join us for a fun, yet still productive practice!

Coaches Spotlight

In preparation for Coaches Appreciation Week, we do still have a while😄 We’d like to do a weekly spotlight on each coach so you can get to them better. Picked at random, our first coach spotlight is Christian!

Coach Christian is new to our team this season, but comes with a lot of swim & coaching knowledge. He’s currently attending ARC, some of his favs are backstroke, hiking, takis, and his special talent is singing/rapping. We should all ask him to sing or rap his sets at practice! You can read more about Coach Christian here😁
